The Skiers Guide to The Galaxy follows an extraordinary group of skiers and characters through some of the great mountain destinations of: Chamonix, Courmayeur and Les Arcs in the Alps to Telluride, Whistler/Blackcomb, Lake Tahoe and Snowbird, with a detour all the way to Maui. It is skiing viewed through Stump’s particular lens: less a conventional travelogue than a fast-moving collage of terrain, personalities, music and the culture surrounding the sport.
Featured athletes include Scot Schmidt, Mike Hattrup, Kevin Andrews, Dan Donnelly, Robert Aguirre, Eric Burton, Rob Boyd, Chris Haslock, Scott Kennett, Scott Rawles, Geoff Stump and Ace Mackay-Smith, alongside a much larger cast of skiers, riders and assorted characters.
At the center of it is the skiing. In this era boundaries between traditional alpine skiing, freeskiing, extreme skiing and the emerging action-sports world were being redrawn. The athletes in The Skier’s Guide to the Galaxy ski with the aggressive, fluid style that defined Stump’s films and helped shape the direction of modern freeskiing.
